the week was fine actually, not much hiccups. supposedly the MI Carnival cum Institute Day was today but due to polling day, it has been postponed to the 20th May... i hope you guys know. anyway, you still can come on that day in the afternoon, they will still be selling tons of coupons for purchase.
read about Ayaan Hirsi Ali in this month's edition of reader's digest... ive heard about her before but the article made me understand what went on really. she basically fights for the rights of muslim women who are abused, forced into marriage and childbearing. in november 2004, her filmmaker friend, Theo Van Gogh (they collaborated on a short film called Submission, "highlighting the abuse of women at the hands of their menfolk.") was shot in broad daylight in amsterdam with his head almost severed and a letter to Hirsi Ali was pinned to his chest with a knife.
she has helped in a lot of things, making global violence and abuse on Muslim women more difficult. i was lost for words after reading the article, emotions overwhelmed me... sometimes, shame. i respect her for whatever she has done, ignoring all the threats she has been receiving all these while and sticking to her political aspirations... but underlying all that, she just wants us to be aware that there are girls out there with no education and no freedom at all and on top of that, ABUSED. i guess if you think that you are suffering or going through a bad time, there are others you dont know of who are dealing with worser conditions. at the end of the day, you just have to be grateful for the things that you have, no matter how insignificant they may be to others.
this week has been a great one, with much reflection.
got myself a new pencil case plus tons of new pens. shopped for pens TWICE this week, once with ain and the other occasion with hafiz. i learnt that maybe i shouldnt go on anymore shopping trips with hafiz, or any of my sisters for that matter.. they just got real BORED. pity them. HAH! bought myself a new coin pouch.. really lovely. helped the class sell nuts for our GLADIATOR and we got plenty of cash... thank GOD for that. infuriated hafiz a few times and regretted it... i dont know whyyy i keep doing that, i hope it wont turn out to be a habit. borrowed novels for myself and sort of regretted it too, cos i would be better off reading Persuasion,
